How we make money
Refer Labs is free to use. Two things pay for it: commissions when you sign up or buy through one of our links, and paid work for businesses on the other side of the site. Neither one lets a company buy a better ranking or a softer review.
Affiliate links
On most of the site, when you click through to a provider and sign up or buy, the provider may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and sometimes gets you a better deal than going direct. On some pages, including the health comparisons, every provider compared is one we earn from. Those pages say so: they cover providers we have a commercial relationship with, which is not the whole market.
Paid work for businesses
The business side of the site sells services: building and running referral and affiliate programs for companies that want one. That is client work, billed to the client, and it is kept apart from everything you read on the consumer side. There is no fee to be listed, and no provider or client can pay to change its position or our conclusions. Most providers we compare do pay us a commission on sign-ups, and on some pages we only compare providers we earn from. Where a company we do paid work for also appears in a comparison, the page says so.
The lines we don't cross
- Rankings are not for sale. A brand can't pay to rank higher or have a criticism removed.
- We don't invent testimonials, ratings or statistics. We never publish our own star ratings.
- We disclose commercial relationships on the pages they apply to, not buried in the footer.
