Foreo Luna vs UFO: they are not alternatives
The LUNA is a silicone-bristled device that vibrates against the skin while you cleanse, with a firming massage mode on the reverse. The UFO is a heated disc that emits red and near-infrared LED light while you hold it to the face. They are separate product lines that happen to share a brand, so choosing between them is choosing which of two different things you want a device for, not deciding which is better. The comparison most pages get wrong
Search results for this question rank the two against each other and declare a winner. That framing only works for devices that do the same job, and these do not. One is used while you cleanse. The other is held against the face and emits light. Someone who buys the "winner" without noticing that ends up with a device that does not do the thing they wanted.
LUNA
a silicone-bristled device that vibrates against the skin while you cleanse, with a firming massage mode on the reverse.
From A$169 (LUNA 4 go) to A$659 (LUNA 4 plus).
UFO
a heated disc that emits red and near-infrared LED light while you hold it to the face.
From A$119 (UFO 3 go) to A$499 (UFO 3).
The one device that sits in both families is the LUNA 4 plus at A$659, which Foreo lists as "LED cleansing & microcurrent". It is the most expensive device across either line, so buying it to avoid choosing costs more than buying one of each of the entry models.
The LUNA line and what it costs
| Device | Price | Foreo's own description |
|---|---|---|
| LUNA 4 | A$329 | 2-in-1 smart facial cleansing & firming device |
| LUNA 4 plus | A$659 | LED cleansing & microcurrent |
| LUNA 4 body | A$249 | Massaging body brush |
| LUNA 4 hair | A$329 | 2-in-1 LED scalp massager |
| LUNA 4 MEN | A$329 | Smart facial cleansing for skin & beard |
| LUNA 4 mini | A$229 | Dual-sided facial cleansing massager |
| LUNA 4 go | A$169 | The skincare essential for gym or travel |
Foreo states up to 600 uses per single charge, and bacteria-resistant silicone, 100% waterproof. Note that 3 separate devices sit at A$329: the face model, the scalp massager and the beard model. The price tells you nothing about which one suits you, so read the descriptions rather than the numbers.
The UFO line and what it costs
| Device | Price | Foreo's own description |
|---|---|---|
| UFO 3 | A$499 | Red light therapy device |
| UFO 3 LED | A$329 | Concentrated NIR & red LED light therapy |
| UFO 3 mini | A$229 | Red light therapy device for young skin |
| UFO 3 go | A$119 | Portable red light therapy device |
The line runs from A$119 to A$499, and Foreo's own descriptions do not explain what the extra A$380 buys beyond size and portability. Nor do they state session length or battery life for the UFO line anywhere on the page, which is the information you would want to compare a UFO against a mask.
Prices are Australian, which is not a given here
Foreo shows Australian visitors prices marked A$ on its own site, so the figures above are local list prices rather than a US number converted at whatever the rate was that day. Enough of this category quotes US pricing at Australian readers that it is worth stating which you are looking at. Both pages also show a "lowest price in 30 days" line, which means the list price is not always the price.

This page describes what these devices are and what they cost. It does not say what any of them treats, because that is a claim we are not in a position to make and a device sold as a cosmetic product is not the same thing as a therapeutic one. General information for an Australian audience.
Common questions
- What is the difference between the Foreo Luna and the UFO?
- They are different device types, not two versions of the same thing. The LUNA is a silicone-bristled device that vibrates against the skin while you cleanse, with a firming massage mode on the reverse. The UFO is a heated disc that emits red and near-infrared LED light while you hold it to the face. Comparing them to pick a winner is comparing a toothbrush to a lamp: the question worth asking is which of the two things you want to do.
- Can one device do both?
- One does. The LUNA 4 plus at A$659 is the only device in either line that Foreo describes as combining both, listed as "LED cleansing & microcurrent". It is also the most expensive device across the two lines, above the A$499 UFO 3, so buying it to avoid choosing costs more than buying an entry model from each line.
- What do the Foreo Luna and UFO cost in Australia?
- On foreo.com the LUNA line runs from A$169 for the LUNA 4 go to A$659 for the LUNA 4 plus, and the UFO line from A$119 for the UFO 3 go to A$499 for the UFO 3. Foreo shows these to Australian visitors marked A$, so they are Australian list prices rather than a converted US figure. Read on 4 September 2026.
- Which is the cheapest way into each line?
- The UFO 3 go at A$119 is the cheapest device across both lines, and the LUNA 4 go at A$169 is the cheapest LUNA. Both are the travel-sized models, so the saving is partly a size decision rather than purely a discount.
- How long does a Foreo device last on a charge?
- Foreo states up to 600 uses per single charge for the LUNA, and describes it as bacteria-resistant silicone, 100% waterproof. They publish no equivalent figure for the UFO line on the UFO page, so if battery life matters to you, ask before buying rather than assuming it matches.
- What does Foreo not publish?
- As at 4 September 2026, neither page states session length, battery life for the UFO line, warranty term, IP water rating for the UFO line. Those are reasonable things to want before spending several hundred dollars, and their absence is worth a question to the retailer rather than an assumption.
